Matt Sloan, The Person
So when I'm not designing, what am I doing? Growing up, my life was centered around playing sports. Today, sports has become more of a hobby than a lifestyle, but still remains an interest of mine. I played every sport possible up through high school, but my main interests have always been in baseball and basketball. I ran in the 2009 Columbus Marathon and enjoy running (although a marathon doesn't seem to be a natural distance). Lately my sport of choice has become tennis because it is fun learning something new.
I have lived in Ohio since I was 3 and unlike most Ohio residents, I appreciate the weather we get here. I grew up in northeast Ohio and moved to central Ohio at the start of college. I graduated with honors from Ohio State and remain a proud Buckeye Alumni. I have always found that working hard has helped me to achieve my goals, whether professional or personal.

Matt Sloan, The Professional
I am a web and graphic designer currently located in Columbus, Ohio. I specialize in web design and creating user interface graphics. I develop my websites to follow the current web standards while using XHTML Strict and other modern technologies. Usability is always the main concern while designing websites for my clients. I believe that as a developer, I should follow the W3C web standards and I take the time to validate each of my pages. I validate these pages knowing that well-written code creates more efficient websites and is a step towards ensuring better cross-platform support.
I also have created many successful logo identities and focus on keeping consistent branding across all media. I have experience designing for large corporations like the American Red Cross and McGraw Hill where there have been strict design guidelines, as well as experience with smaller companies that have given me total design freedom.
I currently am a contract designer, receiving most of my work from other design companies. While I do generate some business through my own clients, most of my work comes from 3 different design companies giving me assignments. I most often work with SMK Advertising, where I receive all of their design jobs as their Art Director. At SMK, I create all sorts of logos, websites, and printed products. I also receive assignments from Photographic Creations/Faze One Ink -- usually apparel design and web updates. Tracermedia Interactive is the third design company that sends me work; usually once a year for a three month span. For Tracermedia, I am usually creating short flash animations that integrate into their larger flash websites.
My latest challenge to myself has been to become more comfortable working with javascript and I plan on working at it until I have an advanced knowledge in that area.
